Metropolis Prairie Decatur (Asthmatic Kitty 2005)

Don’t take it too hard trying to understand the conceptual album – Sufjan Stevens invites you to:  Come on feel the Illinoise. Entering the world of Modern orchestral Folk-Rock recording with plenty musicians and plenty more sounds extracted here. Preceeding its last album, Sufjan Stevens (acoustic guitar, Wurlitzer, oboe, alto saxophone, accordion, glockenspiel, vibraphone, guitar and drums) still keeping people hanging on by his soothed music sound and lyrics, this time tributing for Illinois(e) or ambiguously broken noise. Some of the longest song titles in the world like The Black Hawk War, or, How to Demolish an Entire Civilization and Still Feel Good About Yourself in the Morning, or, We Apologize for the Inconvenience but You're Going to Have to Leave Now, or, 'I Have Fought the Big Knives and Will Continue to Fight Them Until They Are Off Our Lands! Or To the Workers of the Rock River Valley Region, I have an Idea Concerning Your Predicament, and It Involves an Inner Tube, Bath Mats, and 21 Able-Bodied Men among others oddity shorter ones – Casimir Pulaski Day, The Seer’s Tower and Jacksonville are both weird and imaginative just like many musicians are also working this album under Sufjan’s effortless subjective ideas of one to become many many more.
