Whirlwind Get Out Way (Epitaph Records 1993)

Rancid self titled debut album carrying the legacy of the previous talented Operation Ivy fame in but blending them with more hardcore side effects in progress. Consisting as a trio as they started, Tim Armstrong (guitar, vocals), Matt Freeman (bass, vocals) and Brett Reed (drums, backing vocals) recorded these fifteen tracks telling stories about Gilman street’s neurotic areas with its bad memories, maggots and buddies. Proudly produced by Dannell Cameron on Westbeach Recorders; the Rancid album is a good example of the next generation of Punk Rock Sounds from the infamous East Bay area, complete with its aggressive music (fast tempo and even faster – almost chaotic bass compositions), straight up + no bullshit lyrics and a small amount of pop sensibility. Stereo blaster pogo-rock anthems like Animosity, Rejected, The Bottle, Trenches, Unwritten Rules, Another Night, Injury and Rats in The Hallway are parts of thus slamming moshpit kids get bored in a caught up men’s trap named modern life. A cool starts for the once again proclaiming that punks NOT dead !
