The Walkabouts might be coming from Seattle but rather than bursting the usual distorted Alternative Rock or Grunge hysteria today, these sextet multi-instrumentalist rockers surely knows how to be not sounded like another average bands from Washington State area and for that Terri Moeller (drums, percussions), Bruce Wirth (lap steel guitar, mandolin, violin and vibes), Glenn Slater (piano, organ, accordion), Michael Wells (bass, harmonica), Carla Torgerson (vocals, acoustic guitar) and Chris Eckman (vocals, acoustic and electric guitars) have decided to to take their steps away from "the too modern" approaches on Folk Music but putting more and more Traditional roots and influences while mixing them later with Soft Punk Rock or Pop-Goth in the making of The Walkabouts' own distinctive sounds for their fans listening pleasurable. Through New West Motel as the band's fifth album so far, you shall coming out from your usual comfort zone of cranking spontaneous rock acts of Seattle and walking outdoor into the wilderness capturing the essence and expanding your intuition mind reconnected again with Mother Earth and enjoying the private Traditional Folk Punk tribute to the preservation of the Planet starting from your own surroundings. The lyrics isn't always talking about magic in the water or flying elves in the air but here you will noticed that yourself can learn that nothing is possible but impossible. From the vocalization harmony in the semi-mystizism ideas on Jack Candy or Sundowner to the more up-to-date Grand Theft Auto; one should be thankful that there's still a clever group like The Walkabouts showing the world about it's okay not to following the trends but be confident in yourself and this album truly a good example for it.
Many would loving this record but wondering how to get it ...
